What’s a moment in your life that felt like it was straight out of a movie?
When I asked my youngest sister where she wanted to go for her birthday, she said Switzerland. None I us haven’t been to the country, so we, along with our other sister, were excited.
Now, her birthday is towards the end of March, so you’d think that there would be signs of spring already by that week.
Because that is what we had thought, but when we looked at the weather for the week, it showed that it’s still going to be winter-level cold.
We were disappointed of course, but still pushed through because my sister really wanted to.
We rode a plane to Zürich, and my sister’s boyfriend, who came along, drove 2 hours to Grindelwald, where we would stay for 5 nights.
About 30 minutes away from the village, the weather turned from just being cloudy to actually raining. We were quite worried as theere was low visibility and the road was getting more slippery.
Then we get to the last few minutes of the drive, trees transitioned to pisturesque houses and shops, and raindrops turned to snowflakes.
When we finally got out of the car in front of the main building of the airbnb, our jaws were on the floor with awe.
Snow. Think layers of it in every direction we face. It was still heavily snowing at that point. None of us has ever seen this much snow before in person, only in movies.
The next morning, the snowing had lessened, so we managed to get a good look around, and saw the mountains that surround the place. We still couldn’t believe how massive they were, and how high up we also were.
We spent the next few days trying their food, visiting other nearby towns, making snow angels, snowball fighting, and just walking about and enjoying our time. We had also gone paragliding at Interlaken, which was terrifying at first, but a few minutes in, you’re comfortable and you couldn’t help but admire everything that you see down below.
It was the most expensive trip we had ever gone to, but damn, it was so worth it.
