She was just sitting on their sofa in her bedroom, trying to watch tv over the sound of thunder and the pounding of rain against the window.
Trying not to think about the fact that her roommate – her best friend, is out on a date with their girlfriend tonight to celebrate their 2nd year anniversary.
She shook her head and slapped herself hard once on cheek.
No, she said. It’s a person’s right to be with their significant other.
I’m just their friend.
I helped them get together.
I don’t want to be in a relationship.
I need to keep it calm.
Sighing, she stood up as they wrapped a blanket around her shoulders, turned off the tv and started her way to the kitchen.
15 minutes later, she settled into the living room, a cup of tea in hand, but not long after putting on Netflix and setting the volume up to a level she could hear over the storm, she thought she heard the door open and slam shut.
Putting the show on mute, she nervously waited for someone to come in brandishing a weapon of some sort.
And her best friend appeared in the doorway, sopping wet, their expression matching the weather outside.
They looked up and their eyes met.
“She stood me up,” they said quietly, but loud enough for them to hear. “I called when when she didn’t show up after 30 minutes of waiting and she said she doesn’t want to do it anymore.”
“Oh, no,” she whispered.
A few moments passed by, and they spoke up again. “Would you mind if I sat there?”
She sat up straight on the couch. “Not at all.”
Still drenched, they slowly walked over and took a seat beside her, the couch absorbing water from them.
Without hesitation, she moved nearer to them and threw an arm around their shoulder.
And in an instant, their head dropped onto her shoulder and began to cry, and her heart shattered.
They don’t deserve this, she thought.
If only I had the courage to tell you before, you wouldn’t get hurt like this.
Okay. Sloppy ending but I have no idea how to end this and it has been sitting in my drafts for some time now and I want to post something.
Alright that’s it from me today. I hope I can update this site with more interesting crap that this.
Adios!
