Ever thought that your life is going at such a slow pace and suddenly- BAM!- it comes zooming at you like a bullet train and hits you in the face?
Yep. That was what I was thinking about not long before I started typing this.
Hey.
Hi.
Hello.
It’s been a while since I updated this blog about my boring life, and now life isn’t as boring as it used to be.
Probably because I’m going to be a full-pledged adult with no one else to depend on.
Except my sister who I’ll be splitting the bills with.
Anyhoo.
Remember my last post over 6 months ago when I said I passed the exam that I need to be able to work in the country I’ve dreaming of going to?
I know that you don’t because no one really reads this blog, but anyway.
A month after that exam, a friend of mine messaged my sister (who also passed the English test to work abroad) about the recruitment agency she applied for and she said that the processing is very quick.
And it WAS rapid. Because I get to the very point why, let me give you a summary of my career for the past 6 years.
March 2016 – Graduated from college.
June 2016 – Passed the Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination.
July 2016 – Started work as fulltime staff nurse.
Mid-2017 – Began to think about taking an english test. Never made a move until almost 4 years later.
Mid-2019 – Decided to work abroad in Saudi Arabia for at most 3 years to be able to save up more money to work in my dream country.
January 2020 – Took the Saudi prometric exam and passed.
March 2020 – Pandemic happened. Saudi Arabia closed its doors to foreign employees so my plans of working there was out of the question.
December 2020 – Resigned from work due to burnout. Midlife crisis. Began to contemplate what I want to do with my life.
January 2021 – Returned to work but only as part-time. Enrolled myself to a review center for my English exam but really never got to focus.
July 2021 – Resigned from work. Started to be serious about the review.
October 2021 – Passed the exam.
November 2021 – Submitted application to recruitment agency. Resumed work as fulltime staff nurse to gain more experience.
January 2022 – Passed the interview. Took another exam. Resigned from work.
February 2022 – Medical tests.
Early March 2022 – Visa Application. The time when I started to panic because it was happening so quick. Needed to take a breather. Began to bargain to let us have another week at home.
Late March 2022 – Acceptance of fate. Arrival in the UK.
Yes, you guys.
I’M IN THE UK!
I had also just recently passed the OSCE, which I took a month after my arrival, and it was very stressful for me. I might have cried a bit in front of the assessor, and didn’t think of it until the results came out. I honestly was already thinking of preparing 400 quid to resit the exam as I had already accepted my fate, but I aced it!
I was able to celebrate this milestone in life by roaming around London (picture above is actually from my sister’s camera) with my sister, our friend (who suggested the recruitment agency) and her aunt (who has been living in the UK for over 15 years) on the 29th of April. That was one of the highlights of that month. The only famous places we got to visit so far were The O2, London Bridge, Tower Bridge, Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. We also didn’t want to miss out China Town, so we went there. Needless to say, it is indeed heaven for Asians like me.
I’m supposed to have started working on the 5th of May but covid-19 had other plans and struck me 2 days before that. It’s currently my 6th day on Quarantine, and I have nothing else to do, hence being able to post this.
The past weeks had also been busy, so I’m thinking it’s the reason why I still don’t feel any kind of homesickness, but I reckon it’s going to get worse once we’ve already found a flat to stay at.
I’m going to talk more about this soon, if I remember to.
See you next time!
