The first YouTuber video that I had watched was Zoella and Troye waxing the latter’s legs as they did a Q&A. Later on, a video of a guy named Dan Howell being waxed by SprinkleofGlitter popped up on my recommendation. A channel marathon and subscribing to his best friend’s channel later, I became an avid viewer.
I had turned my Harry Potter account on Twitter into a Phan account a few months later and not long after, I had online friends with the same interests. I would often stay up at night in case Dan or Phil tweets, then I would spam-reply them. Once, I randomly tweeted Dan, not knowing that he was online, and BAM! I received a notification from him. It was a single word and they hadn’t replied to my posts wherein I tagged them but that single reply was enough for me.
They went on from Phil Is Not On Fire and other collaborations on their channel to making a joint channel, building their own merch, writing two books and going on tours all over the world.
I am very proud of them, considering where they had started: Dan as a university student who had dropped out because he felt that it wasn’t working for him, Phil as that shy and introverted guy who didn’t know how to handle things while he was on stage. And now, look where they are and yet they remain kind and sweet and down-to-earth.
Sure, I have been a fan for 4 years this month, but a lot had happened during that time. I had discovered new things that I really liked. I’m not saying that I pushed them aside. I would never do that; Dan and Phil are and will always be the only YouTubers that I will watch until the end of time.
But there’s a whole lot of other things too; so many that I could only cram a few into my available time.
I watch lesser videos of them now compared to my first two years in the fandom, but I assure you my love for these huge dorks never ceased. I joined for campaigns for them to go to events here in the Philippines like the YouTube Fan Fest, although we thought that there would be no chance that they’d go.
Until now.
Last Saturday, my sister (the same one who recommended me to watch their videos) tagged me in the comments of a post. I was overjoyed when I learned that they will be doing another tour and I almost threw my phone when I saw that they will be going here in the Philippines next year.
Dan and Phil! In The Philippines! Now who could’ve imagined it right?
Now, I didn’t care how much the ticket will be because I already have a job. The only problem was my parents. See, I live in the southern part of the country, so it would need booking for a flight, and I couldn’t possibly lie to my parents that we will be going somewhere without their knowledge for 5 days.
So after planning what ticket we’re buying, we approached our mother but we aren’t able to get straight to the point because we were scared so we made a lot of segues before she cut us off and asked us what we really want. We only mentioned about the upcoming tour and the venue and we were surprised when she said that there’s no problem, and we became more exhilarated when she offered to go with us and be our chaperone. Now, as 19-, 20- and 21- year old adults, that wouldn’t be necessary, but we haven’t been to Manila by ourselves, so we thanked our mother and proceeded to planning (our youngest sister will be the one who’ll buy the tickets tomorrow since the other sister and I will have our work shift at 7am to 7pm, which was a bust).
So yeah. We are now waiting for the time for the release to arrive, and hope that the website doesn’t crash and that the tickets we’re planning on buying will not be sold out.
We could only hope for the best. Anything for Dan and Phil.
